6500 Bellinzona
During the summer for a few Saturdays, in conjunction with the town's busy market, the Teatro Sociale Bellinzona opens its doors to all those who wish to visit it from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.. The only Italian-style theatre still standing in Switzerland, a building which is a historic monument of national importance and part of the European Route of Historic Theatres, is freely accessible.
Information sheets in Italian and German are available for visitors on the history of the Teatro Sociale Bellinzona and its characteristics as an Italian-style theatre, complemented by illustrated information panels. A richly illustrated book on the history and architectural features of the building is on sale for Fr. 20. Theatre staff are also always on hand to provide further information.
Please note: as a result of major building works currently underway inside the theatre, only the entrance foyer and the theatre's stalls will be accessible to the public during the open house in summer 2024. The stage, boxes, gallery and toilets in the basement will not be accessible. The management of the Teatro Sociale Bellinzona would like to thank visitors for their understanding.
