Dunja Herzog

Kunstmuseum Solothurn, Werkhofstrasse 30, 4500 Solothurn
Dunja Herzog (*1976 in Basel) moves in different geographical contexts in her work, having lived in Nigeria, Cameroon and South Africa for part of the last 20 years. The work material plays an important role as a carrier of diverse stories. In a long-term project in collaboration with Phil Omodamwen's workshop in Benin City, she is creating a collection of jewelry and a series of instruments made from copper scraps. The metal raises questions about colonial history and at the same time reflects its current economic significance. In her latest project, the artist is interested in the reciprocal relationships between bees, plants and humans. Herzog's beehives bear witness to the use of resources and the functions of art. She uses form, material and sound to offer new narratives and perspectives. With her collaborative projects, which are usually created outside the studio, Herzog expands the field of art.
