The group exhibitionReading Earthis the result of a close collaboration between Coalmine - Raum für Fotografie in Winterthur and the F+F School of Art and Design, Zurich. It presents photographs, video works and objects by 14 artists who took part in the F+F Summer School in July 2024 under the title Geliebter, genutzter, verseuchter Boden. An Approach participated. In exchange with international artists, filmmakers and scientists - in the forest, in the garden, in the greenhouse, in the exhibition space and in the cinema - interdisciplinary artistic and scientific methods and formats were taught that develop critical approaches and new narratives in dealing with the basis of life without which we cannot exist.
The artistic works in the exhibition are inspired by these encounters and discussions: They include cyanotypes produced by the Tiefengletscher itself, photographic documentation of a landfill site clean-up in Solothurn, a horror film about garden architecture and a cinematic approach to the migration history of the artist's own father.
