From clay to architectural ceramics - in the exhibition you can discover a wide variety of eye-catchers from our immediate surroundings.
Ceramics is one of the oldest materials in cultural history. The basic material is found in large quantities, is easy to work with and was therefore already widely used in ancient times.

Ceramics are inextricably linked with the history of building and living. Whether as roof tiles, bricks, clinker bricks, floor or wall tiles, architectural ceramics have always been an important part of our living environment and will continue to shape it in the future. Architectural ceramics form the basic framework of countless buildings, but sometimes disappear under cladding.

We come across architectural ceramics in a wide variety of places if we look for them with open eyes and discover that ceramics as a building material can be a real eye-catcher.

The exhibition focuses on buildings in Switzerland, but also looks at international architectural landmarks. Exciting objects from the collection of the Brickworks Museum as well as loans from other Swiss collections sharpen the focus. Haptic experiences with the material in the exhibition and in the workshops on offer make it possible to experience the original material and architectural ceramics in a variety of ways.

A special highlight of the exhibition will be the eye-to-eye encounter with the "Tilo" project by artist Renée Levi. In collaboration with Swiss-Keramik, she designed the pediment of the Federal Palace in Bern in 2023.
