At our December 27 concert, we'll be delighted to present a selection of Christmas carols from our repertoire. These are pieces from here and elsewhere. We're sure you'll be familiar with some of them, and we'd be delighted to have you join us. A flyer with the lyrics of the best-known songs is enclosed for your convenience. We hope you enjoy listening and sharing with us.
Chœur Pro Arte presentation
The Chœur Pro Arte is a group of singers from the central Valais who enjoy choral music in all its forms: a capella, with orchestra or piano, depending on the chosen repertoire.
Oscar Lagger founded the choir in 1971 and directed it for over twenty years. He was succeeded in 1997 by Norbert Carlen, after a brief transition by Nicolas Waldvogel. Since 2019, Marie-Marthe Claivaz has taken over the direction of the choir.
Consistency of effort and the pleasure of singing are the secret of her longevity and her various commitments. Indeed, it has enabled the realization of ambitious projects such as Brahms' "German Requiem", Requiems by Mozart, Duruflé, Verdi, Gossec and Dvoràk, Passions by Bach and Telemann, as well as several Masses, Oratorios and scenic works by composers of all eras.
On several occasions, the Chœur Pro Arte de Sion has joined forces with other choral and instrumental ensembles, such as the Chœur de la Chapelle française de Barcelone, the Konzertgesellschaft Oberwallis (directed by Norbert Carlen), the Villanelle d'Evian and the Orchestre de Saint-Maurice, and more recently, the Ensemble vocal Cantamabile de Sion (directed by Marie-Marthe Claivaz).
He has taken part in a number of international festivals and competitions, including Dole (France), Olomouc (Czech Republic) and Verona (Italy).
